The Consortium’s interactive Telework Lab investigates and demonstrates technologies and collaborative tools. Many of the technologies on display represent cutting-edge communications tools that provide distributed workers with a secure networking solution. Some of the Lab’s solutions include:
- Collaborative software tools
- Video presence
- Bandwidth delivery
- Network security
High-quality video is a core technology for telework. Traditional work engagements where employees are physically located in an office allow for visual cues that only come from face-to-face contact. For effective communication and collaboration with colleagues and managers, teleworkers also require visual interaction. Our vision assumes that bandwidth and fast computer systems can create a sufficiently realistic video presence to substitute bandwidth for transportation. This integral theory is one supported by the tools in the Lab.
The Telework Lab is a smart way for organizations to investigate different technologies before formally entering into a program that enables a distributed work program. Companies interested in telework technologies can contact us to visit the Telework Lab.
